The D41

Jared Weaver and His No Hitter.

You probably saw the highlights on Sports Center or read about it online or in the newspaper, but did you see it live and in person? Well, we did. And it was awesome.

With the rocky season the Angels have had thus far, it was certainly a toss-up to see what the mood would be like for our client event at Angel Stadium on May 2. Never in a thousand years would we have expected to feel the electricity only the prospect of a no-hitter could bring to the stadium stands as Jared Weaver took the mound in the ninth inning for his final three outs. Every single person in the stadium was on their feet, hands clenched, palms sweating, eyes glued to center of the infield, chanting “Weaver, Weaver, Weaver!”

It went a little something like this… Fly out to Vernon Wells on the left field warning track. One out. Called strike out. Two outs. Deep fly to right field snagged by Torii Hunter. Three Outs. Then the swarm began.

After 121 pitches, Weaver threw his first ever solo no-hitter and the stadium’s first no-hitter in 37 years since Nolan Ryan. In front of a crowd of 27, 288, including the 24 of us in the Data41 suite, the Angels, their fans and Jared Weaver celebrated a victory in-person that few people will ever get to experience. We are thrilled to have been a part of the magic that night.

To sum up the evening… Angels beat the Minnesota Twins 9-0 with 15 hits and no errors. Weaver threw 121 pitches including 77 strikes and walked one, leaving the game having thrown the 10th no-hitter in club history.
